Tennessee Self-Reports Violations Made to NCAA

Earlier this week, the Tennessee football program was at the height of controversy with reports that they had moved on from former defensive back Michael Williams, who was charged with rape.

Now the basketball team finds itself in hot water after the university reported violations made by the team to the NCAA.

According to WBIR, the Vols reported that former men’s basketball coach Donnie Tyndall and assistant coach Adam Howard had committed at least one Level II/Level III violation during their one season at Tennessee.

The allegations stem from reports that there were two impermissible phone calls made to a recruit, who had already enrolled at another university.

The report reads:

Current Tennessee redshirt freshman Braxton Bonds enrolled at Liberty University for one week, before being released from his National Letter of Intent. He redshirted the 2014-15 season per NCAA guidelines for transfer student-athletes.

UT fired Tyndall in March 2015 because the university believed he committed multiple Level I/Level II NCAA violations while coaching at Southern Mississippi.

Tennessee self-reported seven Level II/Level III violations made in different sports since September of last year and were made aware of the situation with the basketball team when the compliance office was told that Bonds had been released from his letter of intent at Liberty University, but did not have permission to contact the player.
