In lieu of rejoining Notre Dame for 2015, Everett Golson bid a bon voyage for the Sunshine State. But I write this article with an intention to medicate those wounds towards bliss. Without further ado, I present freshman SS Nicco Fertitta.
Equipped with only a 5-foot-9, sub-200 frame, Nicco concluded his campaign at Bishop Gorman totaling 106 tackles and 5 INTs. Nicco will be joined by Bishop Gorman teammate, Alize Jones, who played as TE.
On the biological side, brother Lorenzo Jr., also found playing time at Bishop Gorman and is now on Villanova’s squad.
Born to Lorenzo Fertitta, CEO of the UFC, Nicco is naturally a hard hitter. A knockout artist. He’s been coined “dirty” in his tackles followed by poor sportsmanship. But when Notre Dame plays opponents, like Texas and Southern Cal, the school will need that audacity – much like the Mighty Ducks needed the Bash Brothers against Iceland.
In fact, he participated in the 2015 U.S. Army All-American game…with a broken hand.
A young man garnished with plenty of disbelievers, Nicco will continue to send a hush over his critics. Although not officially listed on Notre Dame’s 2015 spring roster – and with 3 seniors and 1 junior at safety – Nicco will likely contribute as a special teams specialist.
