Steph Curry forces Davidson’s SID to change his number

I guess it’s true that once something makes it’s way onto the internet, it stays forever. In 2008, a fan asked Yahoo, “Does anyone know how  to contact Stephen Curry?” The answer, seven years later, still shows up as No. 1 in Google search.

At the time Curry was playing basketball for Davidson and sports information director Joey Beeler was his point of contact.

Beeler told the Associated Press he has received over 500 calls for Curry over the past several months. Inquiries ranging from kids wanting him to come to their birthday party to wanting advice on their shooting skills.

As a business man, the calls have became quite overwhelming for Beeler.

“I couldn’t take it anymore,” Beeler said. “It finally got to the point where I never knew if it was a request for Stephen or a business call.”

With Curry the reigning NBA MVP and playing in the NBA Finals, the calls have increased and Beeler had no other choice but to finally ask Davidson for a number change.

Joey Beeler isn’t surprised by the popularity of Curry. Since he served as the SID for Davidson during Stephen’s first two seasons, he saw Curry’s shooting prowess well before the world.
