Rick Pitino meets Triple Crown winner American Pharoah

One legend met another legend on Saturday morning, when Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino met Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Pitino met the legendary horse at Churchill Downs before the Downs After Dark race that takes place tonight.

You could say that the two most well-known entities in Louisville, Kentucky had a meeting of the minds.

According to College Spun, Pitino and his family met the first Triple Crown winner in over thirty years and it was almost too much awesome for one place.

Pitino, who has been with the Cardinals since 2001, has turned the team into a national power as they have not missed the postseason in some fashion, whether it be the NIT or NCAA Tournament, since his arrival.

That is basically the epitome of Louisville of the 21st Century. It may be another thirty years before another horse wins the Triple Crown, but fans of anything Cardinal basketball or horse racing will remember this photo for years to come.
