Delton Williams’ future at Michigan State still in doubt

The future of Michigan State running back Delton Williams has still not been decided. Following a gun-related arrest back in March, Williams was suspended from the team indefinitely and was not on the Spartans’ spring roster.

But according to a report by Mike Griffith of MLive.com, Williams is not currently enrolled in summer classes at East Lansing, nor is he “enrolled in any future semesters,” so it’s looking as though his future with the university as well as the team is in doubt.

This could be due to the fact that even though Williams did plead guilty in what has been called an incident of simple road rage, MSU has a severe “weapons ordinance” that is subject to the university’s “student judicial process,” and that committee’s actions are independent of any criminal investigation and has its own jurisdiction.

As of now, there is no word on when a decision on Williams’ future may come.

“It will not be Mark (Dantonio‘s) decision; any time you have an issue like that, it’s a collective decision,” MSU athletic director Mark Hollis said last week. “To this point, Mark and, frankly, Delton, have handled it extremely well, but it’s a very serious concern.

“It will be a collaborative decision at the end of the day.”

Campus Sports will update Williams’ future as more information becomes available.
