Ryback retains Intercontinental Title after Miz interference

The WWE Intercontinental Championship is almost always worn by the company workhorse, and Ryback was the embodiment of that in his title match with Big Show tonight at Money in the Bank. That is, until The Miz jumped into the ring and attacked Ryback’s opponent, The Big Show.

The Miz actually opened the match coming down the ramp and appearing to pump up the crowd in his home state of Ohio, but then quickly started trashing the state and talking about how the only worthwhile people are in New York or Los Angeles. He then sat ringside to take in the match.

Ryback got the action going quickly in knocking down Big Show and hitting him with the signature Meathook Clothesline, but couldn’t lift the giant up for the Shellshock finisher. The fight went back and forth for a bit after that, with Big Show flooring the champ with a chokeslam before Ryback kicked out at 2, with the Miz being sent into the timekeeper’s area at one point when the fight was taken outside the ring.

The action continued, but then Miz jumped onto the apron and attacked Big Show, at which point the referee rang the bell and declared the challenger the winner by disqualification, with Ryback retaining the belt.

The match itself was fairly mediocre, but we now have the stage set for either an immediate rematch tomorrow night on Raw or for a triple threat match at Battleground in July. The long and short of it all is that the crowd loves Ryback, and he should be in the IC Title driver’s seat for months to come.
