Sheamus wins MITB ladder match, earns title shot

The WWE Money in the Bank ladder match was won by Sheamus, in a bout that was better than anticipated. Also participating in the match were Kane, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Neville, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns.

The action started from the get-go, with the early can’t miss moment being Reigns power-bombing Kingston onto a ladder that had been tucked into the corner. Soon after, Reigns did the same to Neville, ON TOP OF KINGSTON. Needless to say, there’s no denying that Reigns was the favorite heading into this match.

But the rest of the men pulled their weight as well. Orton managed three RKOs, while Kingston kicked off the use of finishers with Trouble in Paradise. At one point, Kingston’s New Day teammates Xavier Woods and Big E picked him up unconscious off the floor to put him back in the empty ring. Kingston came close to climbing the ladder and retrieving the briefcase, but Reigns had other ideas and threw him out of the ring.

It was then that things got crazy. Reigns came close to retrieving the briefcase, only to be knocked off the ladder by the mysterious Bray Wyatt. He was then subsequently dropped with Wyatt’s signature Sister Abigail.

At that point Sheamus, who had already engaged with Ziggler at the top of the ladder earlier in the match, climbed up and fought off a late push by Neville to grab the brief case and walk away as Mr. Money in the Bank.

Though unpredictable and a bit of a curveball, this is a great move by WWE. It allows Sheamus to continue having heel heat and perhaps cash in the contract tonight, maybe to align himself with the Authority.

It does seem odd that the MITB contract match kicked off the pay-per-view, but the results made it well worth it.
