UNLV’s final scholarship still in question

The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels have missed the NCAA tournament the past two years and have never won a tourney game in haed coach Dave Rice’s four-year tenure.

Going into his fifth year, Rice has his first true recruiting class entering their senior seasons. This, mixed with the No. 11 recruiting class, means that it may be a make or break season for Rice and the Rebels.

Rice and his coaching staff are in a position that many schools are not. They still have a scholarship available for the upcoming season.

Rather than filling it with a sub-par player, they have taken their time and the questions still loom. There are a couple possibilities for the future. UNLV is in the running to land Florida transfer Eli Carter, while four-star Justin Jackson could re-classify into the 2015 class.

Many people expect Rice to utilize a more versatile line-up this season using three guards at times.

There is always the possibility that the team leaves the scholarship open, but in a year that may be make-or-break for Rice, a move should be expected.
