Former FSU quarterback John Franklin III headed to JUCO

Former Florida State Seminoles quarterback John Franklin III will leave the university and transfer to East Mississippi Community College. Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports reported Franklin’s decision.

Franklin’s decision comes on the heels of the university landed Notre Dame transfer Everett Golson after the departure of former Heisman winner Jameis Winston to the NFL, and Franklin was also behind rising junior Sean Maguire on the depth chart. Thus, better for the speedy redshirt sophomore to head to a different program so that he can star there and then transfer to a school where he could have a better opportunity for playing time.

Oddly enough, Franklin’s coach at EMCC will be former Seminole and West Virginia Mountaineer quarterback Clint Trickett.

Florida State opens the 2015 season at home against the Sun Belt’s Texas State Bobcats on September 5
