Indiana’s Antonio Allen arrested on multiple drug charges

Indiana Hoosiers safety Antonio Allen has been charged with dealing meth and cocaine — as well as possession charges — and is currently in Monroe County Jail. Mike Miller of The Herald Times reported the story.

Shortly after his arrest, the university released a brief statement on the matter.

This is a huge blow to a Hoosiers team struggling to stand out in the Big Ten. In two years with the team, Allen has registered 109 tackles, two interceptions and a sack. Losing him means losing a key piece of the secondary. Considering how Indiana has gone 14-34 (6-26 Big Ten) in four years under coach Kevin Wilson, one can’t help but feel that this season will be another rough one.

Also, this story can’t help but bring back reminders of former Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears receiver Sam Hurd, who was arrested in 2011 on cocaine and marijuana charges. Hurd was eventually sentenced to 15 years in prison, and the charges against Allen could result in a similar outcome.

Granted, Allen has only been arrested and charged at this point, and this story is very new. Campus Sports will update it as more details become available.

Indiana opens the 2015 season at home on September 5 against Southern Illinois.
