Kansas State to stripe out season opener to honor Bill Snyder

Kansas State University has asked its fans to dress in either purple or white (section depending) for its season opener to stripe out head coach Bill Snyder, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in January. Kevin McGuire of NBC Sports’ College Football Talk reported the story.

Kansas State Associate AD for Ticketing and Fan Strategies Scott Garrett further elaborated on the plan in a statement to the press:

“Many fans have reached out over the last several years asking to stripe out the football stadium for a game, and we thought doing so September 5 will be a great visual way to celebrate the start of the season and Coach Snyder’s selection into the College Football Hall of Fame,” said Associate AD for Ticketing and Fan Strategies Scott Garrett. “With another sellout crowd expected for the game, we are excited for this opportunity to showcase the passion of the K-State Family to the entire nation.”

Snyder, 75, is currently in his second stint as head coach of the Wildcats and is about to enter his 24th full season coaching the team. From 2006-2008, he enjoyed retirement before being asked back again. In his time with Kansas State, Snyder has gone 187-94-1 (109-71-1 Big 12) and won two conference titles. His bowl record stands at 7-9 and the team’s stadium is even named after him: Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Thus, the honor of a stripe out could not go to anyone more deserving than Snyder, who has been beyond devoted to the program for nearly three decades.

Kansas State went 9-4 (7-2 Big 12) in 2014 and lost to UCLA in the Alamo Bowl. The Wildcats will open their 2015 season on September 5 when the MVFC’s South Dakota Coyotes visit Manhattan.
