Michigan State University has extended head men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo’s contract through at least the 2020-21 season. Kyle Feldscher and Brendan F. Quenn of MLive.com reported the story.

Izzo, 60, has been coaching the Spartans’ men’s basketball team since 1995, taking over for longtime coach and mentor Jud Heathcote, for whom he was an assistant for 12 years. During his tenure as head coach, Izzo has gone 495-199 (233-107 Big Ten) in 20 years. He has led the team to the Final Four seven times, won four Big Ten championships and one national championship in 2000. Izzo has also developed a reputation as an excellent recruiter, having coached future NBA stars like Zach Randolph, Jason Richardson and recent NBA champion Draymond Green.
Needless to say, the man has earned this extension and is definitely bound for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in the near future.
Michigan State went 27-12 (12-6 Big Ten) last season and made the NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed. The team made it as far as the Final Four before losing to the eventual champion Duke Blue Devils.
