University of Kentucky point guard commit Isaiah Briscoe suffered a head injury during a practice for the United States U19 team last night and will need to pass a concussion test in order to travel with the team today.
Raphielle Johnson of NBC Sports’ College Basketball Talk reported the story.
A native of Union, New Jersey, about half an hour’s drive from New York City, Briscoe starred at Roselle Catholic High School before committing to the Wildcats and was one of many talented youngsters on the U19 team. His teammates include Oklahoma State commit Jawun Evans, Villanova recruit Jalen Brunson and five-star 2016 prospect Jayson Tatum.
The team is run by Arizona Wildcats head coach Sean Miller. The FIBA u19 World Championships begin in Greece, specifically on the island of Crete, on June 27.
Losing Briscoe for the tournament wouldn’t be a complete blow for the team, but losing anyone that Kentucky went after hard is a testament to just how talented Briscoe is.
If he is not allowed to make the trip to Greece tonight, there is no doubt that the lack of his presence will be felt hard by his teammates.
Campus Sports will update Briscoe’s progress as more information becomes available.
