Joe Rogan questions legitimacy of Kimbo vs. Shamrock

Over the weekend, Bellator MMA hosted an event in St. Louis, Missouri that was headlined by a bout between Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson and mixed martial arts pioneer Ken Shamrock.

The fight ended in the first round after a punch from Kimbo knocked Shamrock to the ground, but there were plenty of people who were skeptical about how it all went down.

During a fight companion podcast, UFC commentator Joe Rogan spoke out about the fight and made it clear that he has some serious questions about the legitimacy of the fight. Like many, Rogan was confused by Shamrock’s lack of action on the ground and his inexplicable decision to place his hand on Kimbo’s forehead while attempting to “finish” the choke.

“That fight looked fake as f—,” said Rogan as transcribed by “There’s a couple of things I don’t like about it. I don’t like that long clinch where they were mouth to ear … When Ken did take him down, he never hit him once. How about that? He had him down, he had him flattened out, he’s not blasting him with punches. He’s got him flattened out, he’s not hitting him, that doesn’t make any sense.

“To me it looked – the whole thing – the entrance looked suspect. He was shaking everybody’s hand. It didn’t look like he was about to go fight, it looked like he was about to put on a performance.”

“The way Kimbo stopped Shamrock, that was real as f—. He definitely cracked him. So maybe they made an agreement and Kimbo said ‘I’m going to punch this motherf—er anyway.’

“He choked him but he had it on top of his head in some weird way … It was disturbing to me how easy it was to shuck Ken off his back. There was a lot of s— I didn’t like about it.”

Rogan is not alone in his thoughts, but the fight is over and everyone is going to have to live with the result. Did the fight look suspect? Of course. Did we expect it to? Absolutely. So, should we be shocked that there are plenty of people out there wondering if the fix was in? Absolutely not.
