A drug possession charge and toe injury hurt Shane Ray’s draft stock, but the former Missouri Tigers pass rusher isn’t feeling down on his potential at the next level.
While speaking about his goals in his rookie year with the Denver Broncos, Ray let it be very clear that he was about to be reaching for the stars.
“I don’t see anything less than Defensive Rookie of the Year. I mean that’s my goal,” Ray said, via NFL.com.
“A lot of people might say that sounds cocky for you to say it right now, but I’ve always set high goals for myself, just like I did in college and that is something that I’m looking to prove, that I’m the best defensive rookie here.”
It is great to see that confidence from Ray.
He will also be helped by the presence of veterans like DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller to help him mature. However, that could also lead to limited reps which will make it hard for the rookie to rack up huge numbers.
That said, it’s going to be very fun to watch him try.
