Canadian five-star guard Jamal Murray has committed to the University of Kentucky. Murray made the announcement on his personal Twitter page.
Originally a member of the Class of 2016, Murray recently reclassified to the Class of 2015 and it was believed that Oregon was the favorite to land his services, if not Kentucky. Murray had also received an offer from Michigan State and had drawn interest from Indiana, Maryland and others.
Murray now joins a Wildcats squad that lost seven key players to NBA draft declarations a few months back, but has key recruits in five-star center Skal Labissiere and five-star point man Isaiah Briscoe, not to mention 2-guard Charles Matthews. Throw Murray into that mix along with returning players in Tyler Ulis and Alex Poythress, and Kentucky is a team that could make some noise in the 2015-16 season. The Wildcats won’t be on the same level as last year’s squad, but could still potentially run away with the SEC, especially with Murray’s ability to create offense on or off the dribble.
Kentucky has gone 190-38 (82-20 SEC) in six seasons under John Calipari and went fully undefeated last season before falling to Wisconsin in the Final Four.
