The Ohio State University football quarterback controversy could very well take an interesting turn if reports are true. According to ESPN’s Joe Schad, quarterback Braxton Miller is expected to remain at the university and not transfer to a new program.

This certainly complicates things, as the Buckeyes would then have three starting-caliber quarterbacks including Miller, the other two being rising sophomore J.T. Barrett and rising junior Cardale Jones. Miller missed all of last season with a shoulder injury and Barrett stepped in as the starter under center, only to break an ankle in November and be replaced by Jones.
Jones then went on to perform incredibly well despite his backup status and helped the team win a national championship as a No. 4 seed, defeating Oregon in the championship game.
Granted, Miller isn’t expected to announce his plans until next week, as was told to Tim May of the Columbus Post-Dispatch, but if this new rumor is true, Ohio State could become an unstoppable force both in the Big Ten and on the national level.
The competition for the starting quarterback’s job would instantly become the story of the preseason and no matter who wins the job, Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer will have a distinct advantage in having three quarterbacks that can all run and throw well. Maybe this could mean having a three-headed monster at the position that can see each man used in game action.
Of course, Campus Sports will update this story as more information becomes available.
Ohio State opens the 2015 season on September 7 with a visit to Blacksburg to play Virginia Tech.
