Bryce Harper uses American pride bat on Fourth of July

Bryce Harper and the Washington Nationals are ready to take on the San Francisco Giants in the second game of the three-game series. The Nationals took game one with edging out the Giants with one more run, a 2-1 final score.

Matt Williams gave the ball to Strasburg to start on the national holiday.

All eyes are on Harper’s bat, literally and metaphorically. Celebrating the 4th of July in style, Harper rocked a very patriotic bat. Painted like the American flag, this bat helped the Nationals get to an early lead with his two-run homer.

At the age of 22, Harper now is in a unique group of batters with having 25 HR’s through the first 81 games, trailing behind Alex Rodriguez in 1998 with 27, Johnny Bench in 1970 with 26, Harmon Killebrew in 1959 with 26, and Eddie Mathews in 1953 with 26.

The announcer also taking notice of Harper’s patriotic pride by adding, “Stars on the shirt, stars on the bat, star in the batter’s box.”
