Michael Irvin Jr. commits to Miami

Any football fan remembers former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin, who after winning a national championship with the University of Miami Hurricanes went on to play 12 seasons in Dallas and won three Super Bowls and made five Pro Bowls, finishing his career with 750 receptions for 11,904 yards and 65 touchdowns.

Now, it appears that his son is at least partially following in his father’s footsteps.

Michael Irvin, Jr., is a three-star tight end at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale and he has just committed to play at Miami.

Irvin Jr. had also drawn interest from Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State and others. Instead, he’ll join the Hurricanes and look to be part of what is becoming a strong rebuild under head coach Al Golden. With Irvin Jr.’s  athleticism and plenty of help coming in via recruits, Miami could definitely be on the upswing.

The Hurricanes open 2015, the team’s fifth under Golden, at home against the MEAC’s Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on September 5.
