Ole Miss acknowledges NCAA investigation of Laremy Tunsil

It has been a few short weeks since Ole Miss offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil was arrested and charged with domestic violence after he punched his stepfather. That situation has spiraled completely out of control as the NCAA is now investigating Tunsil for his alleged involvement with sports agents, something that came about after his stepfather claimed he had been riding around with them.

According to College Football Talk, Ole Miss released a statement addressing the situation on Monday afternoon. The school intends to allow the investigation run its course and hope for the best for Tunsil.

“The University of Mississippi Department of Athletics is aware of the allegations made by Laremy Tunsil’s stepfather regarding potential NCAA violations involving Laremy,” the statement opened.

“As we do with any allegation, we initiated an internal investigation last week and have offered the NCAA our full cooperation. We take the obligations to the NCAA and SEC very seriously, and we will continue to educate, monitor and enforce all applicable rules. Any other reports are speculation until the process is complete.”

Tunsil was arrested after getting in a fight with his stepfather Lindsey Miller in what was said to be defense of Tunsil’s mother. Upon Tunsil’s arrest, Miller claimed that he had been “riding around with sports agents”, which is a violation of NCAA regulations.

Once that statement went public, the NCAA was forced to launch an investigation into Tunsil’s situation to determine his eligibility for the upcoming season.

While I wouldn’t want to take sides, one can only hope that things don’t go from bad to worse for Tunsil. He was defending his mother and should be praised for such. Because of Miller’s anger at the time, it may just cost Tunsil playing time in the end.
