Athletic prowess apparently runs in the Holyfield family.
We all remember former heavyweight boxing champ Evander Holyfield, mostly for losing part of his ear to a hungry Mike Tyson. But now, it’s Holyfield’s son, Elijah, who is making news in the sports world as one of the top running back prospects in the class of 2016.
The four-star recruit from Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia currently holds over 30 scholarship offers, and according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he is preparing to narrow the list.
But who will make the cut?
The AJC is reporting that Holyfield told them, “Auburn will be there. Alabama will be there. Georgia, more than likely, will be on there. Tennessee will be on there. I’m also putting some schools that I haven’t gotten the chance to see but I’m still interested in.”
No word on how many schools will make the list, which Holyfield says he plans to release at the “The Opening” all-star camp at Nike headquarters in Oregon this week.
Most recruiting analysts have Auburn as the leader in the clubhouse, but when asked by the AJC if Auburn was his number one, Holyfield replied, “I wouldn’t say that. I’m going to look at everything soon, but I wouldn’t say anyone is leading right now.”
