With the wait for the 2015 college football season winding down, fans are starting to get anxious about the season’s beginning. It is always exciting to watch the games throughout the regular season, but my favorite part is watching the awards shows near the end of the year. Many watchlists have already been announced and now there are two more that have been released for the public’s viewing.
The Mackey Award is awarded to the nation’s best tight end every year and the Rimington Trophy is handed out to the nation’s best center. According to College Football Talk, thirty-three tight ends and sixty-three centers have been announced for the the early watchlists this preseason.
Michigan State’s Jack Allen was one of the six finalists for the 2014 Rimington Trophy, which went to Auburn’s Reese Dismukes, and he is the only finalist to make the watchlist. Colorado State and Virginia Tech are the only teams with a pair of tight ends on the list for the Mackey Award.
The Pac-12 and SEC led the Power Five conferences with the most on the Rimington Trophy list with eight apiece. The Group of Five also did will with seven centers appearing on the list from both the MAC and Conference USA.
