Derrick Brooks plans to meet with Jameis Winston daily

Derrick Brooks had a Hall of Fame career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after starring at Florida State, and he’s hoping to help fellow Seminole Jameis Winston get on the same path.

Speaking to former Bucs teammate Ian Beckles on WDAE Radio, Brooks went into detail on how he planned to mentor Winston.

“He’s going to meet with Jameis every day when [Jameis] comes back to Tampa,” Beckles said, via JoeBucsFan.com.

“That’s never happened in the history of the NFL, where somebody takes their time to mold somebody, and Derrick said the same thing I’ve been saying the whole time, ‘Jameis Winston is used to success his whole career, which is cool. The second he fails, how is he doing to deal with it? And that’s going to be the most important thing.’”

Winston was picked first overall by the Bucs in this year’s NFL Draft and will start his career during something of a rebuilding phase. Tampa Bay went 2-14 in its first season under head coach Lovie Smith, going back and forth between Mike Glennon and Josh McCown under center.

Given how Winston is a former Heisman Trophy winner coming from a Florida State team that went 27-1 and won a national championship in his time under center, having someone who knows the team and its culture, not to mention has won a Super Bowl and has been on Bucs teams both good and bad, could wind up being incredibly helpful to him.

Hopefully, this makes for an easy adjustment for Winston and gets him on the path to being a top NFL quarterback.
