Former San Diego State basketball commit Brodricks Jones caused a bit of a stir last month when he requested to be released from the National Letter of Intent he signed with the Aztecs during the early recruiting period back in November.
Now, the 6-foot-9 four-star power forward has apparently narrowed his new list of potential landing spots to four.
According to Jones’ Twitter feed, the four schools now in contention for his services are Memphis, UTEP, Syracuse and Providence. Jones also said he plans to take visits to his new finalists in “the very near future.”
No word on which program might be Jones’ frontrunner, but all four certainly could use him. Memphis needs to replace the recently departed Austin Nichols, but they, along with UTEP, are right at the 13-scholarship limit already.
Providence lost two front-court players to transfer recently, and they do have a scholarship available, which certainly works in their favor.
Syracuse, on the other hand, has a scholarship open right now, but they have to consider the recent sanctions handed down by the NCAA that will cost them 12 scholarships over a four-year period, beginning in 2016.
So the scenarios for Jones are interesting and many, and could lead to some fancy scholarship footwork, depending on where he decides to go. Stay tuned.
