Syracuse now has top five 2016 recruiting class

Just months after they self-imposed a postseason ban for the 2014-15 season, the Syracuse Orange now have a top five recruiting class for 2016. The ranking comes just hours after five star guard Tyus Battle announced his commitment to the ACC powerhouse program.

Battle is the twenty-fourth ranked player in the country and according to 247 Sports, the Orange now have the fifth ranked recruiting class for 2016. The Orange are behind Michigan State, UCLA, and ACC opponents Florida State and Virginia in the rankings.

The Orange were punished by the NCAA earlier this year for academic misconduct that includes Jim Boeheim being suspended nine games for the 2015 season. They were also slapped with some recruiting restrictions for the next two season, including 2016.

The Orange missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008 in 2015 due to their self-imposed ban. The team hopes to get back on track for the upcoming season so they don’t give Battle or any other recruits reason not to sign with them for the next season.
