Colorado Buffaloes rising sophomore defensive end and fullback George Frazier was arrested on suspicion of DUI over the weekend after falling asleep behind the wheel of his car at an intersection in Boulder. Mitchell Byars of the Daily Camera reported Frazier’s arrest, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Per Byars’ report, a police car on routine patrol saw Frazier’s car stopped in the middle of the intersection and waited to see if it moved once the lights changed. It did not and once the lights changed back, the officer had to nudge Frazier awake. The transmission was in drive, and Frazier’s foot was on the brake. He claimed to have had just one alcoholic beverage, but the breathalyzer showed a blood-alcohol content of .111 and Frazier was apparently slurring his speech. He was thus arrested, booked and released on bond.
A former three-star recruit from West Covina, California, near Los Angeles, Frazier saw time on both sides of the ball last season. He registered 15 tackles on defense while rushing for four yards and a touchdown, plus five receptions for 35 yards and three touchdowns. This early in his college career, having a DUI on his resume is not going to win him more playing time.
Buffaloes head coach Mike MacIntyre offered a brief statement on Frazier’s arrest.
“We certainly don’t condone George’s actions, of which he is taking full responsibility for, nor do we approve of minors in possession,” MacIntyre said in the statement. “We have strict team policies against this kind of behavior and his discipline will be handled internally.”
Colorado opens the 2015 season, its third under MacIntyre, on the road against the Mountain West’s Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
