Esa Ahmad cleared by NCAA, will enroll at West Virginia

West Virginia received some big news Wednesday. Shaker Heights (Oh.) forward Esa Ahmad, arguably the best recruit in Bob Huggins’ 2015 class, was cleared by the NCAA and will arrive in Morgantown this weekend.

The 6-foot-8, 225-pound wing, confirmed the news on Twitter.

In addition to suiting up this fall, enrolling on Sunday means the back-to-back player of the year in the state of Ohio will travel with the Mountaineers to the Bahamas and compete in the Summer of Thunder Tournament in August.

Ahmad, rated a four-star prospect by all of the major recruiting services, is ranked No. 45 nationally in the final ESPN100 ranking for the class of 2015. He led Shaker Heights in points (26.5), rebounds (11.5), assists (3.5), blocks (2) and steals (2) per game.

The Cleveland, Oh. native originally committed to WVU in September 2014, choosing West Virginia over Ohio State, Maryland, Oregon and Wisconsin. He’s the highest ranked player to commit to West Virginia since Kevin Jones, ranked No. 34, in 2008.

Ahmad will now join fellow recruits, James “Beetle” Bolden and Lamont West on campus. Both players have been on campus since early June.
