Fox Sports has won an agreement with Southern Cal’s auxiliary service department, which oversees the 93,000 seat Los Angeles Coliseum. In addition to past participation with the university, Fox Sports also signed a non-naming rights agreement for three years as a sponsor.
When naming rights are awarded to a potential buyer – whether MasterCard, Pepsi or Vizio – a sum of $600 million in renovations may be possible towards upgrading the Coliseum, which opened in 1923.
According to ESPN, naming rights for the Coliseum might see a contract worth 15 years and $18 million. The university as an independent figure in the deal would witness approximately $3-7 million on an annual basis.
Speaking on terms of the Coliseum’s resume, it played host for two Olympics (1932, 1954), two Super Bowls and a World Series (1959).
The property is also being tracked as a possible housing unit for an NFL squad for the 2015-16 season.
