Colorado State Rams guard Gian Clavell was arrested yesterday and jailed by campus police on charges of alleged harassment and false imprisonment, with what is being called a “domestic violence enhancement” attached. Kelly Lyell of The Coloradoan reported Clavell’s arrest.
Per CSU police, the incident was witnessed yesterday morning and a female student was involved, and an arrest was made on campus. Clavell, a junior from Puerto Rico, has been suspended from the team indefinitely.
CSU’s athletic department offered a brief statement on the matter.
“We are aware of an incident on campus Thursday involving men’s basketball student-athlete Gian Clavell,” the athletic department said in the news release. “We take matters of this type very seriously, and head coach Larry Eustachy has suspended him from all organized team activities while we gather more information. We are following all university protocols and will be prepared to take further action when appropriate.”
Clavell appeared in 33 games for the Rams last season, starting three. Over 24.6 minutes per contest, he averaged 9.2 points and shot 37 percent from the field.
Campus Sports will update this story as more details become public.
