John Cena taps out Kevin Owens, retains U.S. Championship

John Cena’s feud with former NXT Champion Kevin Owens has probably been the best feud in WWE since Cena butted heads with CM Punk, and the two did not fail to put on a great show at Battleground tonight.

Facing off for Cena’s United States Championship, Cena took a lot of abuse and dished out his fair share of offense before locking in the STF, leaving Owens no choice but to tap out.

As was mentioned before, it was a great match from start to finish. Owens did his signature flips off of the top rope, mocked Cena by doing both an AA and Five-Knuckle Shuffle and the STF, with Owens’ running cannonball. At certain points, it looked like he would indeed walk out with his first championship in WWE and dethrone a fan-favorite in Cena.

But, as always, Cena managed to pull of some great moves of his own, from a tornado DDT to a super-AA off the top rope. It was another instance of Cena making an opponent look great, even in defeat.

Next on the docket regarding these two, it’s obvious. The two will likely fight yet again at Summerslam, hopefully in a Triple Threat with Cesaro or maybe even a Fatal Four Way featuring Cesaro and Rusev, and Owens will walk out with the belt after losing to Finn Balor at NXT Takeover in their rematch the night before.

Simply put, buckle up kiddos. It’s going to be one hell of a ride!
