Following a mediocre season for the Big 12 conference, commish Bob Bowlsby declared that his conference – featuring recruiting factories of Oklahoma and Texas – needs to perform better for the upcoming season in comparison to the Big 12’s results in 2014, which showcased co-champions (Baylor and TCU).
The Big 12 finished 4th in the Power 5 conference schools, second to last behind the Big 10. The Big 12 also claimed sole possession with the least amount of wins in the Power 5 with only 69.
The Big 10 suffered its own woes with its premiere programs, Michigan (5-7) and Penn State (7-6), failing to produce productive outcomes. Luckily for Michigan, who is accompanied by former NFL Super Bowl champion coach, Jim Harbaugh, might see the grass turn greener within a couple of years. Meanwhile in College Station, Penn State’s field general, Christian Hackenburg, is slowly winning over critics in launching the Nittany Lions into post-season contention.
Back to a conference that was established in 1994 and saw departures from members, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas A&M and Colorado, the Big 12 needs to redefine proving grounds this season with lackluster performances – especially the post-season embarrassments from Oklahoma (L 6-40 vs Clemson) and Texas (L 7-31 vs Arkansas) in their respective bowl games.
