Bret Bielema clarifies “borderline erotic” statement

Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema is always good for a quote that’ll draw responses or give us a chuckle, and he certainly did that when he said at an SEC media day that defeating the Texas Longhorns in the Texas Bowl was “borderline erotic.”

Bielema has since clarified that statement after appearing on ESPN, with his appearance being reported by Laken Litman of USA Today. Of course, by “clarified,” I mean he didn’t really explain anything.

“To beat Texas, who for my entire life has been on a pedestal, played them twice when I was at Kansas State I was unable to beat them,” Bielema said. “And to beat them the way we did, and the play at the end of the game, and in reference to my ‘erotic’ statement, to kneel at the 2-yard line and not put it in the end zone was symbolic point of where our program is and where I think it can go.”

A big win is always going to emit euphoria, but it’s still weird that Bielema would call defeating the Longhorns in the aptly named Texas Bowl “erotic.”

Well, whatever floats his boat, I suppose.

Arkansas has gone 10-15 (2-14 SEC) in two seasons under Bielema and opens 2015 at home against Conference USA’s Texas-El Paso Miners on September 5.
