Cardale Jones is currently in the middle of a heated quarterback competition with Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett. However, he is reportedly viewed as the best NFL prospect that the Ohio State Buckeyes have under center.
Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball.com recently spoke with a number of scouts who shared their opinion on Jones.
At 6-foot-5, 250-pounds, Jones certainly has the size and his arm strength has some salivating.
According to the report, Jones “has rare physical talent and ability to do anything an NFL team could ask of their quarterbacks” with “rare arm strength” that has led to comparisons to Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
There are some concerns about Jones’ maturity and football I.Q., but he has yet to be in trouble off-the-field.
If Jones can continue to handle himself well off the field while winning the Buckeyes starting job, he has a legitimate shot at becoming the top signal-caller selected.
At the very least, teams are just hoping for a chance to see more of Jones on the field, but as it currently stands he is viewed as a better prospect than Blake Bortles, who was selected No. 3 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Whether Jones can live up to that hype remains to be seen.
