Former Auburn LB Anthony Swain transfers to Southern Miss

Former Auburn Tigers linebacker Anthony Swain has finally found a new home and will transfer to Southern Mississippi. Jason Munz of the Hattiesburg American reported Swain’s decision.

A former three-star recruit out of Alabama’s Gadsden High School, about 56 miles northeast of Birmingham, Swain was primarily a special teams player and backup at Auburn. In his time with the Tigers, he managed just 44 tackles and a sack across two seasons.

He should get more playing time at Southern Miss, but the Golden Eagles have the following players at linebacker as well: Brian Anderson, D’Nerius Antoine, Elijah Parker, C.J. Perry, Terrick Wright, Darian Yancey and David Bertucci, among others. Southern Miss also has JUCO linebacker Sherrod Ruff on its radar.

Either way, Swain will be eligible to play immediately as a graduate transfer and will hopefully be able to close out his college career with a bang.

Southern Miss opens 2015 at home against Mississippi State on September 5.
