Class of 2016 offensive lineman John Simpson, out of Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, South Carolina, took to Twitter to announce his top seven college choices. Looking at his list, wherever he decides to continue playing football, he will be on teams sure to perform incredibly well.
Now that the list has sunk in, it’s clear that Simpson has a tough decision to make. Alabama regularly contends for a national championship, and LSU always manages to contend in the SEC as well under coach Les Miles. And then there’s feisty Georgia, always known for doing great work under Mark Richt. Tennessee is on the rise under Butch Jones, Steve Spurrier has resurrected South Carolina under his watch, and Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers are always certain to make the ACC interesting.
But the most interesting choice on Simpson’s list is Florida, set to begin something of a rebuilding phase under first-year head coach Jim McElwain this season. Given how McElwain has yet to coach a game in Gainesville and there is no way of knowing how the Gators will respond to him, perhaps Simpson’s attraction to the program is just how many recruits have committed to Florida since McElwain was hired lsat year.
Simply put, Simpson has a big decision looming, and Campus Sports will update it as more details become available.
