Ole Miss will have a new face under center in 2015 now that Bo Wallace is gone and if you were to ask AL.com who the Rebels’ new starter would be, the answer would be redshirt junior Chad Kelly.
A former four-star recruit out of Saint Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Tonawanda, New York, near Buffalo, Kelly played at Clemson before being dismissed from the team for “conduct detrimental to the program” and enrolling at a Mississippi junior college. In five games with the Tigers, he completed 10 of 17 passes for 58 yards. After playing last season at East Mississippi Community College, he committed to Ole Miss.
Kelly may have to compete with sophomore Ryan Buchanan for the starting job this summer but if he keeps his head screwed on straight and stays in coach Huge Freeze’s good graces, his abilities as a dual threat quarterback should help Ole Miss make a good deal of noise in the SEC.
Ole Miss opens the season at home against the OVC’s Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks on September 5.
