Former TCU defensive end DeVonte Fields is still awaiting academic clearance to join the Louisville Cardinals football team, not exactly encouraging news with summer camp set to start in just a few weeks.
According to Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal, Fields and incoming freshmen James Allen and Chandler Jones are all waiting for the academic green light to suit up and play. Cardinals coach Bobby Petrino told Jones that Fields is still taking summer courses and fully expects that he will be ready once summer camp begins on August 6.
Fields was dismissed from TCU a year ago following allegations of domestic violence, and the case against him was dismissed after he completed anger management. He spent last season playing at Trinity Valley College in Texas. In two seasons with the Horned Frogs, he had 57 tackles (20.5 for a loss) with 10 sacks, two forced fumbles and even an interception.
Once he clears those final academic hurdles and is cleared to join Louisville, his 6-foot-4, 250 pound frame will be a welcome addition to the Cardinals’ pass-rushing attack.
Louisville opens 2015 against Auburn on September 5, in a game set to be played at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.
