UL-Lafayette dismisses two football players

Louisiana-Lafayette head football coach Mark Hudspeth has dismissed two players from the football program for an unspecified violation of team rules. Luke Johnson of the Baton Rouge Advocate reported the story.

The two players dismissed are wide receiver C.J. Bates and defensive end Marquis White.

“C.J. and Marquis are no longer members of our football team,” Hudspeth said. “We felt it was in the best interest of our program to part ways. We wish them well in their future endeavors.”

A former JUCO transfer, Bates appeared in 13 games for the Ragin’ Cajuns last year and had 12 receptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns. White spent two seasons with the team and appeared in 20 games, totaling 35 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

No further reason has been given for their dismissals, but Campus Sports will update this story as more information comes in.

ULL has gone 36-16 (24-7 Sun Belt) in four seasons under Hudspeth with one Sun Belt title, and opens the season on the road against Kentucky on September 5.
