Paul Finebaum: I was embarassed for ‘crazy uncle’ Spurrier

South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier has been finding himself in the headlines since SEC Media Days. Spurrier addressed his future during the event and for some reason continued to keep talking about it.

Spurrier even called an impromptu press conference to address his “enemies” in the media.

It was a bizarre situation, but in the end, Spurrier wanted to leave no doubt that he plans to continue coaching for the near future. He just went about it the wrong way.

As far as radio host Paul Finebaum is concerned, Spurrier embarassed himself.

“I was embarrassed for him,” Finebaum said of Spurrier during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show . “He came off like the crazy uncle in the attic. There was no explanation, there was no reason.”

“For whatever reason I think he saw this item in the local paper… and he blew a gasket,” Finebaum said. “Steve Spurrier doesn’t need to remind me or you or anyone else of his résumé. He’s one of the greatest coaches in college football history.”

“He turned a dead story into a two-day story.”
