Samaje Perine burst onto the scene as a true freshman when he broke the NCAA single-same rushing yards record against Kansas last season. He rushed for 427 just one week after former Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon did it against Nebraska with 408 yards.
College Spun shared a story that Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight told regarding Perine’s workout. The tale of the sophomore sensation is pretty incredible.
Knight told the Tulsa World about Perine’s one arm workout that was the craziest thing any Sooner had ever seen.
“He was out for a practice or two with a busted up ankle. He wasn’t practicing so they take him into the weight room to do an arm workout. He comes back out and someone was telling us that was unreal. Samaje did 10 sets of 10 with 225 … I can’t do one set of 10 at 225.
“On the last set, he started pumping it out and, instead of looking at the bar and struggling, he just stared into the strength coach’s eyes and pumped out the last set. He’s just physically gifted.”
The Sooners shared a photo that gives you reason to believe Perine’s workout is as crazy as it sounds.
Wow. The only thing that would have made this story better and even more believable is video of the crazy workout. The strength coach needs to get on this next time.
Perine leads the Sooners into battle on September 5 when the team hosts Akron.
