Former Auburn DB headed to JUCO, spurns USF

Former Auburn defensive back Mackenro Alexander has opted not to head to the University of South Florida and will instead attend junior college. Dane Brugler of NFLDraftScout.com reported Alexander’s decision on Twitter.

Since he his heading to JUCO, Alexander will be immediately eligible to play at Northeast Mississippi JC. A former three-star recruit out of Immokalee, Florida, near Naples, he saw little playing time at Auburn and appeared in just eight games in 2013. Last season, he did not play at all.

Since USF is near his hometown, it seemed like a logical destination for him. Instead, he’ll look to dominate at junior college before finding another top program at which he can restart his college career.

Auburn opens the season against Louisville at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome on September 5.
