Vanderbilt-Tennessee game to be named Grits Bowl?

The Battle for the Golden Boot. The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. The Egg Bowl. All of these are names for great college football rivalries within the SEC. Could we be seeing another in-state rivalry being given a name?

According to ESPN and the Tennessean, there are plenty of fans who want to see the game between Vanderbilt and Tennessee named in some form or fashion. The “Grits Bowl” is right now the most popular name among fans, while the I-40 Bowl is in a close second.

The Grits Bowl seems to fit the best for these two Tennessee schools. I mean, what Southerner hasn’t enjoyed a big bowl of grits (whether you prefer salt or sugar in them) once in their lifetime?

Nothing is official and these are just name suggestions that hundreds of readers sent into The Tennessean since Monday afternoon. You can view the full list of names here.

Tennessee and Vanderbilt meet up on November 28.
