USC looking at alternate unis for 2016?

Just a day after Jim Harbaugh announced he would do away with an alternate uniform at the University of Michigan, a major program is reportedly considering adding an alternate look to their uniform repertoire in 2016.

The USC Trojans are apparently looking over at least six Nike designs for an alternate uniform, the boldest of which would be a takeoff on Tommy Trojan’s costume that would feature a bronze helmet, jersey and pants.

Other looks being considered include an all-white combination and an all-cardinal set.

The reasoning behind the move, according to a Nike source, is to impress recruits and keep pace with other schools (thanks again, Oregon).

I believe I made it clear yesterday that while some schools have some pretty sharp alternates – again, Georgia’s little-used black jerseys immediately spring to mind – other programs just don’t need them. USC falls into the Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State category for me. No further updates required. The tradition of those programs far outweighs the need to “keep up with other schools.”

Besides, USC already has weather, beautiful girls, Hollywood stars hanging out on the sidelines and the fact that they’re currently the only football game in town to sway potential recruits. Do they really need a Tommy Trojan uni, too?

Let us know what you think, Trojan fans. You didn’t want Lane Kiffin messing with your look back in 2011. Are you going to let Steve Sarkisian do it in 2016?
