Gavin Cupp gets Ohio State offer after losing out on MSU

Gavin Cupp, an offensive lineman who committed to Michigan State back in May, had his scholarship offer pulled by the Spartans the day after he attended Ohio State’s Friday Night Lights camp last week.

That might sound a bit petty on MSU’s part – they were apparently unhappy that Cupp didn’t inform them about his intentions to attend the OSU event – but things have apparently worked out for the 6-foot-5, 270 pounder.

According to Eleven Warriors, Cupp told them he has received an offer from the Buckeyes.

The Leipsic, Ohio product was resigned to his fate after the MSU offer was pulled, according to The Courier. But he claims he did try – albeit unsuccessfully – to contact the Spartan coaching staff prior to last week’s Buckeye camp.

Cupp said he was told on Saturday that Michigan State was withdrawing his scholarship offer.

“Yes, they did contact me,” Cupp said. “I have talked to them about it. But it’s their decision, and I guess I have to live with it.”

It would seem that by attending the Buckeye camp, he chose…poorly.

At least until today, that is.

Cupp told Eleven Warriors that “It feels great. It’s just a huge relief and a childhood dream. I’m very happy at the moment.”

No word yet on when Cupp, who also has offers from Missouri, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Illinois and others, may commit to the Buckeyes. Hopefully, though, he’ll tell them if he decides to attend another camp.
