Johnathan Gray poised for huge year?

Charlie Strong is hoping that his Texas Longhorns can take a big step forward in 2015 and the team’s success could be riding on the shoulders of starting running back Johnathan Gray.

Gray is entering his final season at the college level and — while he is simply hoping to stay healthy — Strong is expecting big things from his veteran back.

“Now with him being the guy, you expect big things for him. And I told him that,” Strong said, via the Dallas Morning News. “We have backups, but we’d like to see J. Gray go out and just have a big year.”

Strong went on to suggest Gray could see as many as thirty carries per game.

Gray had his sophomore season ended to a torn Achilles and he says that he finally believes that he has his burst back. With so much expected from Gray in 2015, he’s going to need that burst to reach expectations.

Texas opens the season on Sept. 5 against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend.
