Oklahoma denies reports of wearing black alternate jerseys

Reports of nine different teams wearing black alternate jerseys circulated Sunday morning. While Ohio State has confirmed that they will wear a black alternate against Penn State this season, we can cross one team off the list of teams to join the “dark side.”

College Spun reported that the Oklahoma Sooners confirmed that they will not wear the black alternate jersey this season. Despite there being black Nike shirts being sold for the Sooners, the team itself will stick to the classic scarlet and white.

The Oklahoma Athletic Department confirmed that Sunday afternoon according to Kenny Mossman.

Well that is a tad bit disappointing.

The Sooners aren’t exactly against taking risks in the uniform department as the have worn alternates in the past. Who could forget the white-striped helmet look the team debuted last season? A black alternate could have been interesting to see.

The Sooners’ rival, Texas was one one the nine teams rumored to be wearing black this season. Maybe they will one-up their rival by wearing black against them later on this season.
