Australian freestyle motocross rider and D.C. Shoes representative Robbie “Maddo” Maddison replaced his adrenal glands needs for daring heights with 20-foot Tahitian waves in legendary surfing hot spot, Teahupo’o.
Living the daredevil lifestyle isn’t new territory to Maddison. A consistent participant in X Games competitions and a member of the motocross community’s hardcore riders of the Metal Mullisha, Maddison traversed the Corinth Canal (278 feet) and customized a racetrack along an aircraft graveyard in Arizona.
But with assets comes liabilities.
Throughout his career, Maddison has taken his fair share of spills, especially in practice.
During practice for the 2012 X Games, Maddison trekked through the final one-third of the whoops section until the nose of his bike dug into the dirt, sending Maddison chest first when the tailside of his bike landed on him, resulting in a collapsed lung and a right leg laceration.
Maddison missed out on three X Games trips before 2012 due to a list of medical complications, including compressed vertebrae, a dislocated shoulder, a broken leg and a ruptured disc in his back, which required surgery.
Sponsors of “Mad Man” Maddison are: Red Bull, KTM, D.C. Shoes, HSV Australia, Skullcandy, FMF Racing, Dunlop, Arnette goggles and Bell helmets.
