Bob Diaco thinks UConn can win College Football Playoff

Given how the Connecticut Huskies went 2-10 (1-7 AAC) in their first season under former Notre Dame assistant Bob Diaco, one would not even think about putting the team in the College Football Playoff picture. But Diaco apparently feels otherwise.

Speaking to Ed Daigneault of The Republican-American, Diaco made it clear that he not only thinks that his team can make the College Football Playoff in 2015, but win it entirely.

Those are certainly lofty expectations, as the Huskies will have to convince the College Football Playoff Committee to put them in the Playoff over a team from a Power 5 conference even if they do go undefeated.

With the four spots literally up for grabs and UConn coming off of a terrible year, it’s hard to see them even contending for a strong position in the AAC, let alone on the national level.

Still, it’s admirable that Diaco is so determined to win and turn Connecticut into a program of national prominence. If he wants to believe that his team can make it to the playoff and win it all, let him do so.

UConn opens the season at home against Villanova on September 3.
