Ex-Virginia Tech DE Melvin Keihn headed to Maryland

Former Virginia Tech Hokies defensive end Melvin Keihn will transfer to Maryland. Keihn announced his decision on his personal Twitter page.

Thank you #HokieNation and Blacksburg for a great first year. But on to the next journey @MarylandPride pic.twitter.com/1ZFmRe3F2c

It was reported last month that Keihn, a former four-star recruit out of Baltimore’s Gilman School, had requested a release from his scholarship so that he could seek a transfer. In 13 games last year, he played primarily on special teams and had two tackles.

Considering how Maryland was one of the many schools that made him an offer when he was in high school, it is no surprise that he has chosen to continue his college football career there. He will have to sit out this season, per NCAA transfer rules, but will have three years of eligibility remaining when he suits up for the Terps in 2016.
