Florida HC Jim McElwain praises Vernon Hargreaves

Jim McElwain is about to start his new regime at the University of Florida. This is McElwain’s first season as the Gator’s head coach and with the season just a little over a month away, Gator football had their media day today to start off the 2015 camp.

While there are still some things that are up in the air for the Gators, there is a piece of their defense that they know is solid: defensive back Vernon Hargreaves.

McElwain called the junior “arguably the best defensive player, and obviously the best defensive back, in the country.”

There is no doubt in McElwain’s mind that he has one of the best on his defense and it hard to argue with him on it. Last season Hargreaves had 50 tackles, 13 pass breakups, and 3 interceptions.

Florida will open their season when they take on New Mexico State on Sep. 5 in the Swamp. McElwain is hoping to get a win in his coaching debut for the Gators and will be looking to Hargreaves to lead the Gator defense.
